The positive electrode material can be divided into three components. This figure shows the elements in the periodic table that are often used in battery chemistries and in which part of the positive electrode they are incorporated. As can be observed from the diagram, the positive electrode is composed from an insertion cation, or mobile cation, a redox center, and a counter anion.
